Does look very gouache-like. Lot's a nice details - what size pixel-wise are you working at?

Hi Margplum,

Thank you for the feedback! It is always interesting to experiment with textured brushes (digital) to try and mimic the spirit of traditional mediums/brushes. Pixel-wise I work small, maybe 200 pixels wide in the beginning and then bump things larger till about 3500 pixels or more across at the end. 60% of the time is spent painting small.

Absolutely love the painting. Can I ask you if your techniques are the same digitally as those of the Gouache DVD ?

Hi Clayton,

Good question! I would say they are similar but painting with water, dealing with drying, evaporation, really the physical aspect of paint is so different than digital. When I start my small thumbnails digitally they actually go faster than the gouache ones, but the charm of the textures only comes into play as the digital painting gets resized larger towards the end. I suggest trying to start a gouache painting, then scan it, then carry it further digitally. So many options to explore!
